In the middle of the park stands a baroque palace that has served since 1948 as the boarding school of the Wiener Sängerknaben, the boys' choir whose roots reach back to a court chapel from the fifteenth century.
Next door sits a company even older in its craft. The Vienna porcelain manufactory was founded in 1718, the second in Europe after Meissen, and still works by hand right here. The cup you hold in a Viennese coffee house sometimes comes, quite literally, from this building.
For about fifteen years now there has also been a concert hall, built for the choir and open to the public, with a name that nods to the German word for courage.
So on this side the park has everything Vienna loves to show of itself: music, craftsmanship and a garden to stroll through.
Three hundred metres further on stands something that cuts right against all of that.
